How do you respond when your plans are changed by circumstance? If we are honest, we have to admit that we don’t like relinquishing control of our plans and schedules, but let’s take a look from a new perspective. How many times have those chance interruptions led to something great? You may not like those accidents or bad luck circumstances, but let’s talk about them as being the place of opportunity.

In this episode, we learn:

  • The accidents are there to prepare you for something you aren’t even aware is ready to show up in your life

How can you be happy raising kids? It’s a question I get asked often, especially since my wife and I are raising a large family. The truth is that you can read all the books by all the experts, but in the end you realize that each child is different, and you have to follow your own path and figure out your own style. Those rules don’t just apply to raising kids, but to achieving overall happiness in life. No one is happy ALL the time, but there are some guidelines to remember and follow to cultivate a happy and fulfilled life. When it comes down to it, don’t we all want more happiness?

In this episode, we learn:

  • Happiness is not about accumulating THINGS, but it’s who you get to share your things with that will make you happy
  • Three buckets of happiness:
    • Do the things that are physically challenging, because they reward your body AND your mind
    • Do the things you love that contribute to others and make them better
    • Do the things you are constantly hungry to learn and be challenged by
  • The happiest people are those who are proactively pursuing a goal that creates feelings of wealth, abundance, achievement, and joy
  • Don’t focus on your weaknesses, but go with what you enjoy and know you’re good at
  • Key Happiness Takeaway: Your job in life is to find the thing that “lights you up,” that you do well, and then find ways to tie that into helping more people
  • The best news about the three buckets is that YOU get to define them!

Have you ever noticed that the simple act of keeping score in a game inevitably changes how we look at the game. When no one keeps score, there is no pressure and you really don’t know if you are winning or losing. Because of that you really aren’t invested in the outcome of the game.

Keeping score puts an innate accountability on the game - it changes the game. And as someone who is extremely competitive, I can tell you that it messed with your head. No one likes to lose, especially someone as competitive as I am.

In my years of coaching volleyball, I have seen what happens to the players on the team that is not winning when the pressure of the game kicks in. When this happens, players tense up and the stress is evident in their bodies, but for peak performance to actually happen, the body needs to be loose and open. It’s the exact opposite of the stress reaction! So the very thing that will help you win, is the last thing your body naturally wants to do.

Having the mindset that the score of the game is always zero to zero allows you to keep your body from taking over and ruining your chances of having success.

In this mini-episode, I share with you 2 very important things you always should do in order to win! Join me for this quick session to get your mind where it needs to be and then your actions can follow!
